Waimea College is a government school located in the beautiful Nelson region at the top of the South Island. We enjoy the highest sunshine hours in New Zealand and have beaches, mountains and national parks to enjoy. We are part of a warm friendly community and the shopping mall and town facilities are a 10 minute walk from our school. Our exam results exceed the national average and our school offers a safe and friendly learning environment.

Our local students are from a mixture of country and town homes so you can experience both town and country living. The current role of 1650 students includes International students from Germany, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Vietnam, Austria, The Netherlands, Switzerland and Brazil.
. We care about our International students and we believe it is important to offer lots of personal support and guidance so you can achieve your goals. Our homestay coordinator carefully matches students with a homestay family, meets them at Nelson Airport with the homestay family and supports them during their time with us. In addition to a full study timetable for short term students we offer a free outdoor education programme which includes kayaking, sailing, rock climbing and hiking. Students will have a New Zealand student “buddy” to help them settle in to the school and the community.
